“Without libraries what have we? We have no past and no future.” -- Ray Bradbury

2100 Park Place
Birmingham, Alabama 35203

Dear Library Friend:

Where has your library card taken you this year? What doors have you opened? What worlds have you discovered?

Thousands of individuals - children and adults - enter one of our forty libraries every day. Over five million visited our libraries last year. They come to us to learn about their history, travel to far-away destinations, and to chart a path for their future. With one small library card, our community is also able to go on their computers to access thousands of electronic and audio books. Your dedication to our mission and your financial support has made this possible. Thank you!

On behalf of the Public Libraries In Jefferson County, I respectfully request your end-of-year support of our organization. The numbers below will give you an idea of how your dollars are spent.
  • $1,000 Maintains our computer system and IT support for member libraries for one day
  • $500 Maintains the online catalog for one day – providing card holders with access to two million items
  • $250 Provides one day of delivery of books, DVDs, audio books and music
  • $100 Provides Internet access for 40 libraries for one day
  • $50 Provides one day of access to 6,376 downloadable eAudio books and 13,981 eBooks

Last year with your help we raised $63,000 in donations to supplement our operating budget. An incredible accomplishment as we have only been fundraising since 2009. With an annual budget of more than $1,000,000, our fundraising goal this year is to raise $75,000 through generous contributions from valued donors like you.

Together we will continue to provide better, more efficient library services for all county residents. This holiday season, I encourage you to “Give the Gift of Reading” by sending a contribution to keep your public library cooperative vibrant. Please consider becoming a SUSTAINING donor by donating now.

I appreciate your consideration. Make your donation before the end of the today and it will be tax-deductible in 2013.

Sincerely,
Patricia Ryan
